Cancer Care
Jessica Bailey came to our hospital for treatment for osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer.  Lauren was diagnosed with rhabdoymosarcoma, a muscular tumor behind her eyes.  Dr. Marcio Mologolowkin, Director of the Bone & Soft Tissue Tumor Program in the Center for Cancer & Blood Diseases, guided the very special care provided for both of these young girls.

Cleft Lip & Palate Care
Elias was born with cleft lip and palate, one of the most common craniofacial anomalies.  Our hospital's Division of Plastic Surgery provided a full naso-alveolar molding protocol so that the family could minimize the number of corrective surgeries for him.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
McKenzie was diagnosed while she was still in the womb with a severe case of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, where the intestines cross the barrier into the lungs, preventing the lungs from developing.  Dr. Phillipe Friedlich in the Center for Fetal and Neonatal Medicine attended to her as soon as she was born so that her condition could be corrected.

Care for Peter's Anomaly
Zoe was born with what her pediatrician initially thought was cataracts.  In reality, Zoe had Peter's Anomaly, a condition that, if untreated, would leave her blind for life.  Zoe needed cornea transplants for both of her tiny eyes.  Her successful surgeries were provided by Dr. Jonathon Song, of the Vision Center.

Care for Retinopathy & Retinoblastoma
Madison was born 3 months too early.  She faced, among other complications, retinopathy of prematurity.  Her blood vessels were growing in the wrong direction and she needed surgery to keep her from going blind.  Her care was provided by Thomas C. Lee, MD, a specialist in the Retina Institute of the Vision Center.  Rebecca was born healthy but developed Retinoblastoma, cancer in her retina, at age 18 months.  She needed repeated interventions to save her young life.  Her care was provided by A. Linn Murphree, MD in the Retina Institute of the Vision Center.

Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Syndrome (SCIDS)
Juan was born with (SCIDS) Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Syndrome, meaning that his bone marrow did not produce an immune system to protect him.  Juan was provided care by the expert staff of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program.  Physicians and scientists are researching methods of improving care for children with SCIDS at the hospital's freestanding laboratory, The Saban Research Institute with Gay Crooks, PhD.

Sickle-Cell Disease Care
Atreyu and Brandi were born with sickle-cell disease, a genetic disorder affecting the blood.  Our hospital has a comprehensive sickle-cell program in the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases.
