Ben Figueroa Named Associate Vice President for Research Administration

Ben Figueroa, director of research administration and director of science, technology, engineering and math education at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), has been named associate vice president for research administration at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, effective today (April 14, 2008), according to an announcement by Yves De Clerck, M.D., director of The Saban Research Institute and vice president of research at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and professor of pediatrics, biochemistry and molecular biology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.

Research-scientists at The Saban Research Institute of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles have discovered a link between predispositions to obesity and formation of brain connections that likely impact weight regulation and appetite later in life. The research was conducted in the Neuroscience Program of The Saban Research Institute. Results of this study will be reported in the February 6, 2008 issue of the journal Cell Metabolism.

Kang, Pharm.D., director of the Leukemia Preclinical Testing Laboratory of the USC-CHLA Institute for Pediatric Clinical Research at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and her colleagues, have collaborated with scientists in Sydney, Australia, in publishing a study published in the September 15, 2007, issue of the journal Blood entitled, “Activity of Vincristine, L-ASP, and Dexamethasone against accute lymphoblastic leukemia is enhanced by the BH3-mimetic ABT-737 in vitro and in vivo.”
