Our hospital pioneered a way to help new nurses transition into caring for children with our Versant RN Residency in Pediatrics Program.  The program provides the specific tools and experiences needed by new graduates to become successful pediatric nurses. 

The Program

Created in July 1999
Paid 22-week program
Provides comprehensive clinical and learning experience in acute care environments
It is now the national model for new graduate pediatric nursing nurse residency programs in the United States.

Curriculum

• 75-percent time spent in one-on-one preceptor-guided clinical experiences
• 25-percent time spent in classroom and skills practice and demonstration
• One-on-one guidance for all clinical experiences provided by skilled nurses, or preceptors
• Dedicated experienced nurses as coach, and resource mentors
• Supportive debriefing/self-care groups
• Extensive, individualized rotation/orientation to all appropriate different hospital areas
