James E. Stein, M.D., FACS, FAAPJames E. Stein MD. FACS FAAP has been an attending pediatric surgeon in the Division of Pediatric Surgery of the Department of Surgery at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles since 1996. He is an assistant professor of surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Stein is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Stein led the 80-member medical and surgical team that successfully separated conjoined twins at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles on Sept. 11, 2003, in a rare, highly complex and historic procedure. He will lead the team in the separation of conjoined twins Regina and Renata Salinas Fierros on June 14, 2006. Dr. Stein’s major areas of research interest lie in the cardiopulmonary care of newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia and the childhood solid tumors, neuroblastoma and hepatoblastoma. He has authored 16 peer-reviewed articles and 18 abstracts. Dr. Stein received a bachelor’s degree (1981) from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and a medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine (1986) in Boston. Dr. Stein completed an internship (1986-1987) and residency (1987-1989, 1991-1992) in the Department of Surgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center and was chief surgical resident (1992-1993) at Tufts. Dr. Stein completed three fellowships " a research fellowship (1989-1991) at Boston Children’s Hospital and a pediatric surgery fellowship (1993-1994) at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, as well as a pediatric surgery fellowship (1994-1996) at Babies and Children’s Hospital in New York, New York. Dr. Stein lives in Altadena. |
