The DAISY Award
The DAISY Award is the first national program established by patients and their families to honor nurses. The program currently includes more than 50 hospitals throughout the United States. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation, based in Glen Ellen, California, was established by Bonnie and J. Mark Barnes in memory of their son, J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was sick inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. Damian and Christa Story credit Childrens Hospital Los Angeles with saving their son, Cole. The Story’s recommended Childrens Hospital to the DAISY Foundation " a nurse at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is selected monthly to be honored with the DAISY Award. |
