Latino & African American High School Internship Program (LA-HIP)

The Saban Research Institute is offering 15 paid internships for the summer of 2009. The 6-week research internship provides high school students entering 12th grade the opportunity to perform biomedical experiments in a research laboratory of their interest.

Program Objectives

• Increase self-motivation, scientific curiosity, and confidence to pursue a career in science or academic medicine
• Provide professional and personalized college and financial aid counseling to ensure enrollment in the appropriate university/college
• Provide the opportunity to learn the process of scientific inquiry and laboratory experimentation;

Program Dates

July 6 - August 17, 2009
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Program Highlights

Hands-on experimentation in a research laboratory under the supervision of a scientist
Free SAT prep classes
Free professional college and financial aid counseling
Free selected college campus visits
Interns receive at total of $1,000 stipend (upon completion of the program)
Interns receive free meals and transportation
Interns are expected to participate in all programmatic activities (SAT classes, college and financial aid workshops on selected Saturdays and college campus visits)

Requirements

Submission of a complete application
Matriculated incoming 12th grade student from eligible schools
Good academic standing
Interest in science as evidenced by science classes taken
Commitment to rigorous learning

Application Information

The online application will open on December 1, 2008 and close February 15, 2009 (late application will not be considered)
Only complete applications (application, official school transcript and letter of recommendation) will be considered
