Research Centers & Institutes
The Saban Research Institute
The Saban Research Institute of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is one of the nation's largest and most productive pediatric research facilities in the United States, with 93 investigators engaged in more than 200 laboratory studies, clinical trials and community-based research and health services. It is one of the few freestanding research centers in the nation to combine scientific inquiry with patient clinical care - dedicated exclusively to children. Its base of knowledge is widely considered to be among the best in pediatric medicine.
The USC-CHLA Institute for Pediatric Clinical Research
The USC-CHLA Institute for Pediatric Clinical Research at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles was established to conduct research on pediatric illness and disease, with a particular emphasis on clinical trials. With the combined resources of the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, investigators seek to discover the best means to diagnose, treat and prevent pediatric disease and to promote child and adolescent health.
Centers of Excellence
In areas where patient need is greatest, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles has established Centers of Excellence to focus energy in making advances quickly to advance the level of care. In these areas, special efforts are made to transfer knowledge gained at the laboratory bench to the bedsides of our patients to help them recover. Our Centers of Excellence include the:
The General Clinical Research Center
The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is an inpatient and outpatient research support service funded by the National Center for Research Resources of the National Institutes of Health. The GCRC at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California established a satellite GCRC at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in 1995. Of particular interest to the Childrens Hospital GCRC is providing support for protocols that address genetic diseases, the effects of diseases and their treatment on the developing nervous system, introduction of new technology into pediatric care and the long-term evaluation of patients receiving treatment with new technologies.
The Childrens Clinical Investigations Center
The Childrens Clinical Investigations Center (CLIC) demonstrates the top priority the hospital places on clinical and translational research, which transfers basic scientific findings from the laboratory to clinical applications - that is, from "Bench-to-Bedside." More than 900 clinical research studies in new therapies, treatment ideas and technologies are active at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
