Where to Eat
Just for Patients
The hospital employs clinical dietitians who are specially trained to assess each patient’s nutritional needs and preferences. These dietitians will make meal recommendations based on that information and the child's medical condition. To reach the Clinical Dietitian, please dial Ext. 15613 or (323) 361-5613.
Food Trays
Each day your child will receive an "At Your Request™" Room Service menu for daily meals. You and your child, if appropriate, may select meals from the customized menu provided. To request a specific meal, call Ext. 16368 or (323) 361-6368 to place your request.
Ask that staff repeat your order back to you to ensure that it is correct.
Check the order before the food service worker leaves the room.
Special Requests
To meet the special needs of our patients, kosher frozen meals are available upon request. Guest Food Trays are available at a cost of $5, to be paid upon food delivery.
Food from Home
If your child's doctor has saidd that your child may have food brought from home, then home cookoing might be just what is needed to comfort your child. Please follow these precautions to minimize the risks for our patients:
- Mark the container with your child’s name and the time and date of preparation.
- Give the container to your child's nurse to store in the unit's refrigerator.
- All food in the refrigerator will be thrown away after 72 hours to prevent accidental contamination.
Birthday Program
If your child’s birthday occurs during their stay at our hospital, Food and Nutrition Services will provide a small birthday cake (unless the child's physician has imposed dietary restrictions that would prevent the hospital from providing this service).

Cafeteria
The Hospital Cafeteria is located on the Ground Floor. It can be reached at Ext. 12224 or by dialing (323) 361-2224.
Hours of operation
Monday - Friday:
5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.,
12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m.
Weekends/Holidays: 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Coffee Bar
Aromas Espresso Coffee Bars are located in the hospital lobby and inside the Cafeteria.
Hours of operation
Monday - Friday: 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
McDonalds
A McDonald’s franchise is located on the First Floor of the hospital.
Hours of operation
Monday - Saturday: 5:00 a.m. - Midnight
Sunday: 6:00 a.m. - Midnight
Vending Machines
Vending Machines are located at the rear of the Cafeteria through the doors near the Tiger Elevators.
Hours of operation
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In addition, some patient unit lounges or lobbies also have vending machines.

Sometimes it’s nice to leave the hospital environment for a meal, so we have included a list of nearby restaurants on our website. The listings are provided for your convenience only. Other Requests
Breastfeeding Mothers
Breastfeeding mothers may order unlimited juice, milk or bottled water by dialing ext. 16368. Portable breast pumps can be moved to your child’s room.
If you need an attachment kit please contact your child’s nurse.
Consultation by a certified lactation educator is available by dialing ext 12449.
