Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is known for its superb patient care, delivered by compassionate and caring nursing staff who are respected as essential members of each child's healthcare team.  Our nurses are respected by all members of our staff, and by healthcare professionals throughout the United States and around the world for their leadership in pediatric and adolescent health.  

Nurses come from all over the country to work here because of the warmth of our physicians, nurses and other caregivers, and those who support them.  As a Magnet Hospital, our nurses work at a hospital that is both enviable for the level of expertise shared by its physicians, but also for the level of excellence in care provided by their fellow nursing professionals.

Nurse Training

Childrens Hospital is committed to developing the highest quality nursing staff, at our hospital and across the region.  Our nurses are provided with a multitude of professional development opportunities to develop their skills so that they can care for the most seriously ill and injured children in our region.   Our commitment to the training of nurses is evidenced by:

• Our collaboration with 16 schools of nursing throughout the country
• Over 45 nurses on staff who also serve as faculty at nursing schools across Southern California
• The hospital's status as a practice partner with the Masters Entry Clinical Nurse (MECN) Prelicensure Program at the UCLA School of Nursing.
• Pediatric nursing rotation training provided to 737 student nurses annually.

In addition, the hospital pioneered a unique approach to training nurses that has become a national model.  The Versant RN Residency in Pediatrics, a 22-week program that provides new nursing school graduates with a comprehensive guided clinical experience to prepare them for work in an acute care environment.

Note: To date, 512 nurses have successfully completed the residency. Graduates of the Versant RN Residency Program have a turnover rate of only 15-percent for the first year of employment, compared to 36-percent prior to the advent of the residency program; our 24-month turnover rate has been reduced from 56-percent to 25-percent.
